A collection for the victims of the Indian earthquake disaster filled a 40ft container.

So far The Rotary Club of Newton Aycliffe have purchased two defibrillators, one is with the St Johns Ambulance and the other is based in the town’s Leisure Centre. A third is planned for the near future when it is hoped, we will donate it to the District Nurses.

Byerley Park Infants & Juniors school held a “Heart Start” event and raised £2000 for the club to go towards a new defibrillator.

Rotarians at the Newton Aycliffe club were instrumental in starting a Furniture Scheme for needy families and those on low income.

Each year Santa visits the local supermarket, tours the streets of Newton Aycliffe and even does home visits, collecting approximately £2000 for needy families in the area.

The club organise a Christmas Carol Concert with the majority of local schools and churches attending.

Club President John Burrows, had the honour of officially declaring the completion of the Blue Bridge Environmental Improvement Scheme in June 2005.

The ceremony was attended by the Chairman of the County Council, the Borough and Town Mayors, Councillors, and all partners involved in the project from the business and general community.

The scheme was the brainchild of the Rotary Club of Newton Aycliffe who wished to mark the centenary of the world-wide organisation.

The Blue Bridge site is a prominent Newton Aycliffe landmark and lies at the entrance to the residential area dividing the town from the Industrial Park.

The Rotary Club have erected a new welcoming sign containing their logo.  The sign sits proudly on the green banks just before the Blue Bridge. On the Blue Bridge itself each Council have mounted their Coats of Arms on black marble. The overall appearance of the area has been greatly enhanced and thanks are due to all those who contributed their time, effort and materials to this scheme
